Dr Helen Jeges for Senate
Dr Helen Jeges is proud to be the Animal Justice Party’s Lead Senate Candidate for Victoria in the upcoming Federal Election. A passionate advocate for animal welfare and social justice, she lives on Gunaikurnai Country in Sale, a regional community in Central Gippsland.
Helen is a Doctor of Paediatric Neuropsychology, currently employed at Latrobe Regional Hospital, one of Gippsland's largest public healthcare facilities. In her role, she provides high-quality care to children and families, always treating them with respect, empathy, and compassion. Dr Jeges firmly believes that animals, like humans, deserve the same fundamental respect and care. She has devoted her career to the public health system and is a staunch advocate for universal healthcare, particularly the reform of mental health services in rural and regional areas.
Having grown up in her father's veterinary clinic, Helen has long been committed to the welfare of animals. She is a passionate advocate for all animals, from companion animals to wildlife, and lives a cruelty-free lifestyle. In addition to her professional commitments, she volunteers and donates to several prominent animal welfare organisations, including Animals Australia, Animal Liberation Victoria, and Farm Transparency Project. Dr Jeges was also an Executive Producer for the critically acclaimed 2018 documentary Dominion, which explored the ethical implications of humanity's treatment of animals.
Dr Jeges is involved in local wildlife rescue efforts, including rescuing and transporting injured animals in Central Gippsland, and volunteering with Mange Management Victoria to treat wombats suffering from mange. She has also provided foster care for greyhounds discarded by the racing industry. In her personal life, she enjoys spending time with her family - husband, children, and her adopted animal companions: Ralph the greyhound, Jedi the staghound, and Danny the domestic shorthair cat. Helen’s ‘happy place’ is spending time with Piggy the dorper sheep and his 140 animal friends at Liberation Sanctuary, Gippsland.
Helen is committed to achieving lasting change for animals and humans alike. As part of her political platform, she campaigns for a ban on live animal exports, an end to wildlife slaughter, the phase-out of intensive factory farming, and stronger penalties for animal cruelty. Dr Jeges also advocates for policies that promote equality, such as subsidised veterinary care for low-income households, tax reform to ensure a fairer system, affordable housing, and a stronger focus on preventing and responding to family violence.
Witnessing the devastating effects of climate change firsthand, including extreme weather events such as drought, bushfires, flooding, and storms, Helen is a fierce advocate for urgent climate action. She supports ending fossil fuel extraction and exports, transitioning to a 100% clean economy, implementing a carbon tax, and investing in sustainable, plant-based agricultural practices, regenerative farming, and large-scale ecosystem restoration.
Dr Helen Jeges is dedicated to creating a more compassionate and equitable society. She believes that positive change for animals, people, and the planet can only be achieved through legislative reform and the representation of these values in Parliament. If elected, Helen will serve Victoria with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to the core values of the Animal Justice Party: kindness, equality, rationality, and non-violence.

Donate to get Dr Helen elected!
Contesting elections is a costly exercise - it's a $2000 fee per candidate to get on the ballot paper and then there are advertising and printing costs! We estimate it will cost us a minimum of $5k to cover candidate fees, advertising and printing for Helen's campaign. We'd love to double or triple that to give her the best chance of being elected to represent AJP in the Senate.
Can you chip in to cover some of the costs?
