Defending animals, nature, and the communities that need us most
A lifelong voice for animals
Fiona Adin-James has been a passionate and peaceful advocate for animals since childhood. At just five years old, she was proudly awarded an ‘Animal Defender’ badge by the British Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals—and she’s been standing up for animals ever since.
Now, Fiona is proud to represent the Animal Justice Party in Hawke for the 2025 Federal Election.
Protecting wildlife and the environment
To Fiona, the wellbeing of animals, the environment, and people are deeply connected. With commercial kangaroo slaughter on the rise and habitat clearing continuing despite protections, she is deeply concerned about the lack of legal safeguards for Australia’s native wildlife. In her own community, she has witnessed the displacement of wildlife from tree clearing and unchecked development.
Fiona is calling for stronger, enforceable laws that:
-
Safeguard wildlife corridors,
-
Protect biodiversity, and
-
Invest in innovative environmental protection technologies.
Experience in animal care and community services
Having cared for rescued animals herself, Fiona has seen the cruelty of inhumane farming practices that remain legal in Australia. Her empathy and compassion have also guided a lifelong career in community services. Since beginning this work in 1990, Fiona has contributed to disability advocacy, community garden projects, and wellbeing initiatives for older Australians.
Championing mental health and disability reform
As a qualified and experienced crisis counsellor, Fiona is passionate about mental health intervention and supporting women with children in crisis. She has seen firsthand the failures of services like the NDIS, and is committed to putting lived experience at the centre of reform.
An advocate for equality
For over 20 years, Fiona has played a key role in building inclusive support networks for LGBTQIA+ people in her local area. Her work has helped foster safe, welcoming spaces where everyone is valued and empowered.
A kinder future for all
Fiona is running to build a future where:
-
Wildlife and forests are protected,
-
Cruelty is no longer accepted, and
-
All people can live safe, healthy, and connected lives.
In her own time
When not campaigning or volunteering, Fiona enjoys restoring old wooden treasures—always with the loving company of her rescue cat, Coco.
