To date in 2024, a total of 51 greyhounds have died on racetracks nationwide, as confirmed by detailed reports, including a fourth death at the Traralgon venue this year - the 18th of 20 deaths across Victorian racing tracks.
Currently, Visit Victoria advertises three greyhound racing tracks: Sale, Warrnambool, and Ballarat, on its website (www.visitvictoria.com), describing them as offering “all the fun of greyhound racing”, “a fantastic entertainment experience”, and “thrilling action”.
The recent death of a greyhound at the Gippsland racing track has led to urgent appeals from animal welfare groups for Visit Victoria to stop promoting greyhound racing. We support this call!
