Alyssa Wormald is proud to stand as your Animal Justice Party Candidate for Monbulk.

Alyssa has spent most of her life on Wurundjeri Country in outer eastern Melbourne, and it's here that her passion for animals and the environment first took root – inspired, from a young age, by watching her mum stand up for the causes she believed in.

That early inspiration has grown into a lifetime of action. Alyssa began campaigning for wildlife with the Coalition Against Duck Shooting, spending season after season out on the wetlands documenting and opposing the shoot – work she still supports today. She went on to found the Australian Native Parrot Protection Association, campaigning against the lethal control of parrots and championing ethical alternatives. When two kangaroo mobs in the Yarra Ranges came under threat, Alyssa helped launch the Save the Kinley Kangas campaign to protect them – a fight that grew into the Victorian Kangaroo Alliance Inc., which Alyssa now leads as president, campaigning against kangaroo persecution and exploitation across the state.

Alongside her advocacy, and while continuing her long-term career in university administration, Alyssa co-founded Heaven and Earth Eco Burial Products with her sister. Their small business creates eco-friendly, vegan burial shrouds and runs community education sessions on green burial – including how it can create new havens for wildlife.

Close to home, Alyssa is a strong opponent of the proposed expansion of the Montrose Quarry, standing with her community to protect the local environment she loves.

Outside her advocacy work, Alyssa holds a BA in Historical Studies and enjoys audiobooks, travel and bushwalking – though nothing beats time with her family. She shares her home with her three young children, two rescue cats, and a backyard alive with birdsong and the occasional visiting kangaroo mob.

Alyssa is proud to run for the Animal Justice Party, a movement that has stood beside her through years of campaigning and shares her vision for a kinder, greener future.
