Animals are Still Suffering – Demand Answers Now!

Victoria’s animal protection laws are failing — and the Government has walked away from fixing them.

Millie the Maltest Shih Tzu and the horses in Mt Eliza are just a few recent examples of how badly Victoria's animal cruelty laws are letting animals down.

These laws are nearly 40 years old, and do not give inspectors the powers they need to step in when animals are suffering.

The new Animal Care and Protection Bill was supposed to change that.

It was drafted. It was ready. It was promised.

And now, it has been quietly shelved.

While the Allan Government delays and avoids scrutiny, animals across Victoria continue to suffer under outdated laws. Enforcement agencies remain blocked and hamstrung, unable to act when it matters most.

This is no longer just about passing new legislation — it’s about accountability.

The Victorian Government made a commitment to strengthen animal protection laws. Instead, it has abandoned reform without explanation, leaving animals unprotected and the public in the dark.

Victorians deserve answers. And animals deserve action.

We are calling on the Victorian Government to explain why the Animal Care and Protection Bill has been dropped, and to commit to delivering stronger animal protection laws without further delay.

Thousands of Victorians have already raised their voices. Now we need the Government to listen.

Take Action

🖊️ Use our email form below to demand Premier Allan to explain why the Animal Care and Protection Bill has been shelved. This legislation would replace the outdated Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 and finally give authorities the power to intervene quickly and prevent animal suffering.
