Apply to be a State Election Candidate

Thinking about running as a candidate?

Putting your hand up to stand as a candidate is a powerful way to create change – not just for animals, but for people and the planet too.

At its core, being a candidate is about representing the values you believe in and giving a voice to the voiceless. You don’t need to be a seasoned politician, a great public speaker, or have years of campaigning experience. What matters most is your passion, your integrity, and your willingness to speak up for animals.

The Animal Justice Party had its first representative elected to the Victorian State Parliament in 2018, and in 2022, Georgie Purcell was elected to the Upper House.

Over this time, we have proven the importance of having political representation in the Victorian Parliament in order to make changes for animals.

This year, we hope to have multiple candidates elected to the Victorian Parliament. By doing so, we can form a strong crossbench to hold the government to account and introduce bills to end animal cruelty.

This is where you come in!

Standing as a candidate with the Animal Justice Party can be a truly rewarding experience.

You can expect:

  • Support every step of the way, with training and resources available
  • To become part of a community of like-minded animal advocates
  • To learn new skills in public speaking, media engagement, campaigning, and leadership

Running as a candidate is a chance to:

  • Increase our vote in order to build political capital – which we can use to leverage wins for animals
  • Put animal protection on the political agenda in your area
  • Hold the major parties to account on animal protection
  • Build public awareness of key issues

Whether you're elected or not, running a campaign helps build momentum, spark conversations, and grow the Animal Justice's Party political power – all of which ultimately allows us to secure meaningful wins for animals.
