Dr Helen Jeges is your Animal Justice Party candidate for Gippsland South in the upcoming Victorian State Election. She lives on Gunaikurnai Country in the temperate rainforest of the Tarra Valley, Gippsland South.
Helen is employed as a Doctor of Paediatric Neuropsychology at Latrobe Regional Hospital, one of Gippsland’s largest public hospitals. As a health practitioner, Helen treats her patients and their families, with respect, dignity, empathy, and kindness; and strongly believes that animals deserve the same fundamental consideration. She believes in universal healthcare and supports public healthcare reform, particularly in rural and regional communities.
Together with her husband, Helen owns and manages a nature-based tourism holiday park in Gippsland South, which has been designed specifically for people holidaying with their companion animals. She understands the importance of supporting local businesses and promoting the natural beauty of Gippsland to visitors. Having endured drought, bushfires, floods, and extreme storms in recent years, Helen is genuinely concerned about the devastating effects climate change is having in Gippsland.
Growing up with a veterinarian father, Helen has a life-long interest in the health and welfare of animals. She is a passionate advocate for animals, and lives a cruelty-free lifestyle. Helen has provided foster care for 18 greyhounds discarded by the racing industry and manages the Ending Greyhound Racing campaign for the Animal Justice Party, Victoria.
Helen cares deeply about native animals, rescuing wildlife and volunteers with Mange Management to treat afflicted wombats in the Tarra Valley. Helen also enjoys spending time with her adopted companion animals: greyhound, staghound, cat, and companion sheep.
An active volunteer in her local community, Helen is as a long-standing member of the Yarram Primary School Council. She also is a committee member of the annual dance Eisteddfod in Yarram, and volunteers at other Gippsland Eisteddfods.
Dr Helen Jeges believes that the most effective way to achieve positive change for animals, people and the planet is to represent them in Parliament and change legislation. When elected, she will represent Gippsland South with conviction, integrity, and compassion.
