Maurita Rahn for Tarneit

Maurita Rahn is standing as your Animal Justice Party candidate for Tarneit because she wants to see a change in the way animals are treated in Victoria. She is a firm believer that society must shift towards seeing animals as individuals, not products.

As an active volunteer and campaigner for animal rights all over the world for over 15 years, Maurita is dedicated to the animal protection movement. In particular, she is committed to pushing for a rapid phase-out of cruel factory farming practices including battery cages for hens. Maurita believes it is time for Australia to join other nations in enforcing battery farm conversions - Australia can do better, and we should be a nation that sets the trend in animal welfare.

When elected, Maurita plans to end the exploitation of animals for entertainment which includes bringing an end to the horse racing industry. In the process, she advocates for the ethical treatment of 'spent' horses who are discarded by the industry.

Further, Maurita recognises the importance of educating people about the responsibilities of having a companion animal, which includes prioritising their welfare. She supports the Animal Justice Party's 'Veticare' proposal which will see animal welfare improve for both companion animals and wildlife.

A local of the Tarneit area for over 20 years, Maurita also has a background in procurement; working within the corrections system and health industries. In her spare time, she also assists with administration duties for the Victorian Dog Rescue.
