Naomi Jones is a compassionate vegan and long-time animal advocate, standing as a candidate for the Animal Justice Party in the seat of Melbourne for the 2026 Victorian State Election.
Naomi has been vegan for nine years and has dedicated much of her life to the rescue and care of animals. Since 2004, she has rescued and adopted ten miniature dachshunds, and currently cares for five dogs, including three who are deaf and two who are vision impaired. Many of the animals she has cared for have been saved from poor breeding practices and neglectful or harmful circumstances.
Alongside her commitment to animal welfare, Naomi is also a cancer survivor. Together with her husband, who is also a cancer survivor, she offers support and education informed by lived experience, both as a patient and a carer. This has strengthened her commitment to compassion, dignity, and practical support for people facing serious illness.
Naomi holds a Master of Design Communication (with Distinction), a Diploma of Interior Design, and a Diploma of Dental Technology.
She brings extensive grassroots experience through years of community support work, particularly assisting people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability. This has included helping individuals access clothing, food, financial assistance, pet care, and donated goods, especially during transitions into stable housing. She is a strong advocate for well-resourced supported accommodation services such as Oznam House and Foley House, and for sustained government funding to ensure these services can continue their vital work. Alongside her husband, she also contributes to supporting patients in need of dental appliances through the Victorian Denture Scheme.
Over the past 30 years, Naomi has volunteered with and supported numerous animal rescue organisations, including Vets for Compassion, Dachshund Rescue Australia, Pets of the Homeless, BAWCS, Wiener Crew Rescue, Pets Haven, Rabbit Runaway Orphanage, Edgar’s Mission, Second Chance Animal Rescue, and Save-A-Dog Scheme. She has also organised donation drives and ongoing community support for animal welfare groups.
Naomi is passionate about strong animal protection laws across all areas, including breeding practices, racing industries, wildlife conservation, agriculture, animal testing, entertainment use of animals, fur production, and the welfare of both native and introduced species. She is also committed to addressing domestic violence and its broader impacts on families and companion animals, with a focus on practical assistance and dignity-based support for survivors.
She is equally committed to improving accessibility, safety, and liveability in Melbourne, particularly in relation to transport planning, cycling infrastructure, road access, and traffic flow within and around the CBD, drawing on her lived experience as a resident navigating these changes.
Through her candidacy, Naomi Jones aims to strengthen community representation and advocate for meaningful, compassionate reform that reflects the needs of both people and animals across Melbourne.
