Peita Collard for Northern Metro

Peita Collard is the Animal Justice Party's Upper House candidate for Northern Metropolitan Region.

Born in Brisbane, Peita moved to Melbourne in her early twenties to pursue a career in theatre, going on to establish and lead a successful independent theatre company throughout the late 1990s and 2000s. She has since built a career dedicated to supporting people and advocating for a more compassionate society.

Peita holds a Bachelor (Honours) and Master of Arts from La Trobe University, along with a Double Diploma in Counselling and Community Services. For almost a decade, she has worked as a therapist in private practice, helping people navigate life's challenges with empathy, understanding and respect. Her professional experience has reinforced her commitment to social justice and ensuring that vulnerable members of the community have a voice - values that naturally extend to her advocacy for animals and the environment.

A passionate advocate for animal rights, Peita believes the way society treats animals reflects its values. She is committed to strengthening animal welfare laws, increasing penalties for cruelty, and ensuring wildlife carers, rescue organisations, local rangers and animal management officers have the support they need to respond effectively to neglect, abuse and animal welfare concerns.

As a committed vegan, Peita sees compassionate living as both an ethical choice and a practical way to inspire positive change. She enjoys cooking and sharing plant-based food with others, demonstrating that delicious, satisfying meals can be enjoyed without harming animals.

As the guardian of a rescued dog, Peita has advocated for more fenced dog parks so dogs and their guardians can safely enjoy public spaces. She is also deeply committed to protecting Victoria's native wildlife, opposing unnecessary culling and recreational hunting while supporting humane, evidence-based approaches to managing human–wildlife conflict. Reducing wildlife road trauma through improved infrastructure and planning is another key priority.

Peita also believes Victorians deserve greater transparency around animal testing and factory farming. She supports stronger accountability and believes better public awareness can help drive more compassionate choices and improve animal welfare standards.

Peita is standing for the Animal Justice Party because she believes protecting animals, restoring ecosystems, tackling pollution and addressing climate change are inseparable challenges. She is committed to building a kinder, fairer and more sustainable Victoria that protects animals, strengthens communities and safeguards the environment for future generations.

There is a donation cap of $5,190 that applies in the period 27 November 2022 to 28 November 2026.

Donations of $1,290 or more must be disclosed to the Victorian Electoral Commission within 21 days. This includes where multiple donations total $1,290 or more in a financial year.
