Tamara Champion is an environmental scientist, ecologist and long-time resident of Melbourne's south-east who is standing as the Animal Justice Party candidate for South East Metro to be a voice for animals while helping build healthier, greener and more compassionate communities.
Tamara has lived on the Mornington Peninsula since the age of seven and currently lives in Rosebud. Growing up surrounded by nature and rescue animals, she developed a lifelong appreciation for Victoria's unique wildlife and natural environment, along with a deep belief that animals deserve kindness, respect and protection.
She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Wildlife and Conservation Biology) from Deakin University and has spent the past decade working in bushland restoration, restoring native vegetation, protecting biodiversity and helping conserve threatened ecosystems across Victoria.
For more than ten years, Tamara has also been a committed vegan and animal advocate. She has volunteered with wildlife shelters, farm sanctuaries, conservation programs and community environmental groups both in Australia and overseas, gaining firsthand experience in animal welfare, habitat protection and environmental conservation.
Tamara decided to stand as a candidate after years of advocacy and study convinced her that politics is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting, systemic change for animals and the environment. She is deeply committed to animal welfare and believes the treatment of animals across many industries is one of the most urgent and confronting issues of our time. She is determined to be a voice for the voiceless in parliament, advocating for stronger protections and an end to unnecessary suffering.
Tamara believes that healthy communities and a healthy environment go hand in hand. She also believes that how we treat animals reflects the kind of society we choose to be. Through compassionate leadership and practical solutions, Tamara is committed to helping build a future where people, animals and nature can all thrive.
