A commitment to community

Vasundhara Kandpal comes from the Himalayas, home to the world's highest and most rugged mountains. It was here, in her childhood, that she learned one of life's most enduring lessons: communities thrive when people stand together. Vasundhara’s parents and grandparents spent their lives in public service, and her father was a union leader who fought for workers and people doing it tough. Their example instilled in her a deep conviction that the true purpose of life is to serve others, a conviction she carried with her when she made Australia her home.

For more than a decade, Vasundhara has worked in research, community education and the social welfare sector, working alongside multicultural communities, local councils, government agencies and community organisations.

Much of her work has been in Melbourne's West, supporting women, families and culturally diverse communities. She has established women's sporting groups, delivered community education programs for young families and worked with senior citizens and multicultural organisations across Wyndham and Melton.

My focus for Kororoit

Kororoit is one of Victoria's most vibrant and diverse communities. Vasundhara believes our diversity is our strength and that every person regardless of their background, culture or faith deserves to feel safe, respected and heard.

Ahimsa Parmo Dharma (non-violence is the highest moral duty) is at the heart of Vasundhara’s values.

She believes that violence has no place in our society, whether directed at a gender, race, religion or species. Her commitment to ahimsa extends beyond words, it shapes the issues she chooses to stand for.

Vasundhara is committed to ending the cruelty associated with greyhound and horse racing in the West, while working towards a safer, more compassionate community for everyone.

Her two priorities for Kororoit are -

1. Prevention of crime - thefts, break-ins, street violence, family violence and racist attacks. 

2. Improved public transport

For Vasundhara, a stronger community is one where people feel safe, animals are treated with compassion, diversity is respected, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Vasundhara firmly believes that politics should unite communities, not divide them, and that people deserve representatives who listen with humility, lead with integrity and focus on practical solutions. Grounded in a lifetime of service and guided by compassion for people and animals alike, Vasundhara is committed to being a strong, authentic voice for the people of the Kororoit.
