After her schooling at Eureka Street Primary and Ballarat East High School, Wendy Morrison’s life has been diverse.

Starting work in the Ballarat retail sector, she then spent many years travelling Australia as a camp cook/tour host with various coach touring companies. This was followed by stints in hospitality and office administration roles. The locations were as far apart as Melbourne, Cairns, Shepparton and Alice Springs.

Returning to Ballarat permanently in 2017, she first stood as an Animal Justice Party candidate in 2018 and again in 2022. She is passionate about staying fit and strong. You may see her in one of our local gyms or yoga studios. She is also a qualified yoga teacher.

Kindness and equality are personal values of Wendy’s that directly align with the Animal Justice Party. She is passionate about inclusion, a world where human and non-human species live side by side in peace with the planet.

To achieve this, the first step for Wendy is to ensure animals are allowed to live their best lives in their natural environments. Current practices breed and commoditise animals into industries such as animal agriculture, experimentation, racing, and so-called entertainment. Animal welfare is currently secondary to profit and traditional forms of recreation. Obviously, human change would be required for this to happen. Wendy strongly supports a kind transitioning process for people during the shift to sustainable industries and non-harmful recreational activities. Plant-based agriculture, eco-tourism, and the production of plant-based foods already exist, but Wendy would champion their growth even further.

The trigger for Wendy’s passion for animal issues is something she still vividly remembers. Whilst travelling in Victoria on an extremely hot 2003 day, she “locked eyes” with very distressed sheep packed into a fast-moving truck. Empathising with their distress, she immediately became dedicated to learning about animals in the human food chain, entertainment, and experimentation. This was the start of her choice to lead a vegan lifestyle.

With a thirteen-year membership of the Animal Justice Party and two previous state elections, Wendy is standing as a candidate once again. She believes that every being and the planet we share deserve a voice in parliament.
