One year ago, the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Native Bird Hunting Arrangements instructed Premier Jacinta Allan to ban duck shooting.

She ignored it.

Instead, in a gutless, cruel, and shameful move, the Allan Labor Government has just announced the longest and most reckless duck shooting season in over a decade.

400,000 native waterbirds are now condemned to ruthless slaughter—despite scientific evidence showing that waterbird populations have plummeted by almost 50% in just one year.

This decision wasn’t made on science. It wasn’t made for the environment. It wasn’t made for the Victorian public.

It was made for the gun lobby.

Ignoring Science. Ignoring the Public. Ignoring the Crisis.

The most reliable and extensive waterbird survey in Australia—the Eastern Australian Waterbird Survey—just confirmed that waterbird populations are in freefall.

🚨 Half the birds. Double the killing. 🚨

Instead of acting responsibly, Labor has:

🔴 Closed consultation from ecologists, veterinarians, and wildlife groups—shutting out science.
🔴 Ignored the drought crisis, which is devastating wetland habitats.
🔴 Caved to a 0.2% minority who still shoot ducks for fun.
🔴 Relied on a biased model that doesn’t even count waterbird numbers.

And let’s not forget:

🔴 Promised "common sense reforms" that have completely vanished.
🔴 Abandoned their own proposal to introduce proficiency testing to reduce wounding rates.
🔴 Refused to address the illegal shooting of protected species, climate impacts, or First Nations' concerns.

This isn’t leadership. This is failure.

Victorians Are Locked Out While Shooters Take Over

For three months, Victoria’s lakes, rivers, and wetlands will become killing fields.

While regional businesses suffer losses and families are locked out of nature, shooters will be free to gun down endangered native wildlife—with no accountability and no consequences.

📉 Up to 85% of the public wants this barbaric practice banned.
📉 Every "game" species is now below long-term population averages.

But Jacinta Allan doesn’t care.
