🚗💔 Every year, thousands of native animals in Victoria are killed or injured on our roads. From kangaroos and wombats to koalas and birds, wildlife road trauma is a major crisis—and right now, the people who step up to help are doing it for free.
Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation is almost entirely run by volunteers who dedicate their time, money, and resources to saving injured animals. But with minimal government support, carers are forced to self-fund lifesaving food, medicine, and shelter.
A Simple, Fair Solution: A $2 Road Levy for Wildlife Care
We’re calling on the Victorian Government to introduce a small $2 levy on vehicle registrations—a practical and affordable way to fund emergency wildlife care.
đźš™ Why $2?
- This small contribution per vehicle would provide consistent and reliable funding for trained wildlife carers.
- Unlike current sporadic and limited grants (some capped at just $3,000), this fund could support urgent rescues, rehabilitation, and emergency treatment for animals injured on our roads.
- It ensures that when an animal is hit, there’s actually someone there to help.
